Racoons and Electric Fencing

Will an electrical Fence exclude Racoons?

Electric fenc installation for racoons can  be an efficient way of keeping raccoons out. However, it can be limiting so supplemental or alternative measures may have to be taken for complete success.

When is electrical Fencing the proper Solution?

The area you’re looking to guard from raccoons will make an enormous difference in determining whether or not electric fencing may be a good idea. Electric fence will almost certainly help keep raccoons out, but your particular areas surroundings will have a lot to do with the actual effectiveness of the electric fencing you install

racoons and electic fencingAs an example, if there’s a tree just outside your newly installed electric fence with branches that overhang it, raccoons will easily breach the fence via the tree.  The same issue goes for any nearby structures, fencing, etc. a raccoon will potentially climb over anything nearby to avoid the fence. So, in other words, electric fencing is often very effective, as long as you’re thorough and don’t allow any means of breaching the electrical fence installation.

Obviously, we’re talking about raccoons here, but are raccoons the sole thing you’re trying to stay out? An electrical fence will presumably be effective against any animal that comes in touch with it. However, smaller animals are susceptible to slip through the wires, and bigger animals may require a larger sized energizer. Keep this in mind when installing your wiring and posts for your new electric fence installlation.
